Four Ways to Improve Your Well-Being in 2021

Most of us spent the year stressed, isolated, and looking at our screens way too much. Studies have shown that stress doesn’t just affect our minds, but our bodies too. Let’s leave that energy behind and start to improve our mental and physical well-being. After all, there’s nothing that can empower you more than feeling good about yourself. Here are 4 easy ways to improve your overall well-being in your everyday routine.

  1. Start a daily meditation practice

If you’ve never done it before, meditating could seem daunting and it may feel impossible to stop your mind from racing. Luckily, there are plenty of apps and classes to help beginners start their meditation journey. This is one of the easiest ways to improve your feelings of well-being.  We love to end our day with a meditation to put us to sleep. This provides us with the dual benefit of a great night’s sleep and a calmer mind.

2. Join an online yoga class

As we’re coming up on a full year of the Covid-19 pandemic, it’s safe to say that a lot of us have been spending too much time on our couches (it’s not just us, right?). If you’re in the same boat, it’s time to get up and stretch. A good way to get started and get some socialization is by joining an online yoga class. We offer free community classes over zoom and shorter yoga flows on our Instagram. We find yoga to be one of the best practices to help our bodies and minds, just remember to focus on your breathing to get the most out of your class.

3. Learn a new skill

It’s never too late to pick up a new hobby! Learning a new skill helps “stretch” our brains and makes us more adaptable. Have you always wanted to learn a new language? Find a virtual meetup to have conversations with other beginners and help each other learn. Do you love sweaters? Learn how to knit and make your loved ones knitted pieces that will keep them cozy for a lifetime. Are you interested in becoming a better cook? Visit In Her Kitchen, our platform to teach others how to make our favorite meals. Whichever skill you choose, know that you are stimulating your brain and creating a healthier lifestyle.

4. Volunteer in your community

Finally, if you’re looking to feel better there’s nothing that helps like volunteering to help your community. You can clean up trails to get some fresh air, start a drive to collect supplies for those in need, or volunteer with In Her Presence to help local women improve their English comprehension and empower them to succeed. We are always looking for local community members to provide resources to our IHP community of recent immigrant women and girls.

If you want to feel better about your well-being in 2021, you are not alone! There are plenty of solutions to help bring wellness into your life, and they only take a few minutes of your day.
